Chitral’s provincial assembly seat restored
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has restored the provincial assembly (PA) seat of Chitral which it had abolished before the 2018 general elections.
According to the new delimitation results posted on the website of the ECP, Upper Chitral with a population of 169,297 and Lower Chitral with a population of 278,328 would have one provincial assembly seat each.
After abolition of one of the two seats of Chitral, people of the valley had been demanding restoration of the seat.
Chitral had two provincial assembly constituencies by the general elections of 1977 but one of them was abolished in 2018. The residents of Chitral were of the view that population and the backwardness of the area warranted three seats.
With the decision of the ECP to restore the seat, Upper and Lower Chitral will have one seat each in the KP assembly – PK-1 AND PK-2.
Very good news!
Big news. Thank you ECP!
Both the districts should have one National Assembly seat each as well, one for Upper and one for Lower district as it is not possible for one member to cover 14840 square km area ,the largest districts of the province.
