CHITRAL: People of Chitral ignored the decision of the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to celebrate Eidul Fitr on May 2, and followed the Central Ruet Hilal Committee.
The central moonsighting committee on Sunday announced that it could not see the Shawal moon and hence Eid would be celebrated on May 3.
Soon after the announcement, however, the KP government of the PTI decided to celebrate Eid in May 2.
With the announcement, the district administrationd of Chitral Lower and Chitral Upper issued notifications to celebrate Eid in accordance with the provincial government’s decision.
However, religious leaders headed by the khateeb of Chitral’s Shahi Masjid went into a session and decided to celebrate Eid with the federal government as has been the practice in the past.
People of Chitral welcomed the decision and said that provincial government’s decision was politically motivated and it should not have deviated from the central moonsighting body in the best interest of the federation.
