ISLAMABAD: Israr Saboor, a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chitral, has started an intense lobbying for a party ticket to contest the Senate elections from Khyber Pakthunkhwa.
Well-placed sources privy to the development told ChitralToday that Saboor who remained the runner up in the 2018 general elections from PK-1 Chitral is “moving from pillar to post” to get a ticket with the help of a Chitrali-American billionaire, who happens to be quite close to Prime Minister Imran Khan.
But background interactions with senior PTI leaders in Islamabad revealed that there is “no possibility at all” for Saboor to get ticket given the number of potential candidates in the country.
“I think he’s groping in the dark as the guy whom he is relying on is himself in the race for Senate ticket,’ said a senior PTI leader who declined to be named in an obvious reference to Zulfi Bokhari.
If by any means or through sheer stroke of luck Saboor succeeds in making it to the upper house of parliament, he will emerge as the second senator from Chitral after late Prince Burhanuddin.
Despite repeated attempts, Saboor could not be contacted for comments.
