Two sisters drown in Chitral river near Drosh

DROSH: Two sisters, aged nine and 11 years, drowned in Chitral river in front of Drosh on Sunday morning, locals told ChitralToday.
Picture released by Rescue 1122.The incident occurred at Hakimabad, a hamlet located across the river in front of Drosh.
The locals said a family belonging to Bajaur tribal district had come to the house of Hazrat Muhammad in Hakimabad to meet their relatives.
The two sisters from the visiting family along with some local children were playing among stones along the river when one of the visitors slipped into the water. He sister tried to save her but she also drowned.
The body of the 11-year-old was later recovered in front of Naghar by local people and search was carried out for the other. Rescue 1122 also joined the search operation but till filing of this report at about 5:30pm the body remained untraced.
Deaths from drowning into rivers in Chitral are common and many lives have been lost to the gushing waters, especially in the summer months.
And then, for centuries, rivers in Chitral have been used by distressed people to commit suicide and even today we hear of such incidents from across the valley.
