BOONI: Tehreek-e-Huqooq Awam representatives at a meeting with local admin and power utility company officials decided to put off their planned April 3 long march after assurance that the current supply of electricity to upper Chitral would be maintained.
For about three years upper Chitral has been in the grip of a power crisis. The resident engineer (RE) of Reshun powerhouse told the meeting that the current supply of power to upper Chitral would be maintained and efforts would be made to further improve it.
The Tehreek leaders asked the official to give them in writing which was accepted. Moreover, a scheduled was agreed upon under which loadshedding from 6:30pm to 9:30pm would be maintained on an alternate day in Torkhow section and Mastuj section.
Similarly, there will be loadshedding from 5am to 7:30am on these section on an alternate day. Apart from these hours, power will be supplied to the area without any disruption.
The assurance by the RE in writing was also signed by the assistant commissioner, subdivision police officer Mastuj and the SHO Booni.
A committee was also formed by the Tehreek leaders to monitor the situation and recommend action in case the supply of power was not ensured as promised by the official.
On March 22, the Tehreek leaders had announced to hold a long march from Booni to Golen Gol powerhouse after the government failed to ensure power supply to Upper Chitral even after the completion of the powerhouse.
