Birir residents’ major issues to be resolved soon: DC

CHITRAL: A kutchery called “service open forum” was held at the scenic village of Birir in Kalash valley on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner Khurshid Alam Mehsud, Assistant Commissioner Sajid Nawaz and heads of all departments were present to listen to complaints of the public.
Nazims and chairman village councils complained that the road to the valley had been in a very dilapidated condition for years.
There is only one civil dispensary which should be upgraded to the Basic Health Unit. They complained that there was no wheat sale point of the food department.
Non-local people are using timber from the local forest. They also demanded upgradation of the high school in the area to higher secondary one.
The locals complained that due to unavailability of a lady doctor in the whole valley, they were compelled to take their women patients, especially for delivery cases, to the government hospital in the Chitral town. They also demanded establishment of a computer lab at the only high school of Birir.
Addressing the gathering, the deputy commissioner said on the directive of the provincial government the district administration would be holding two service open forums in every part of Chitral, issues faced by the residents of Biri would be resolved on a priority basis.
He announced to immediately arrange computers for the setting up of a computer lab in the school. He said lady health visitors and other staff would be posted in the area. The DC also assured the locals that preference would be given to the Kalash community in the recruitment.
The district food controller said he can provide wheat on cash payment but local complained that in the past substandard quality wheat had been sent to the area.
Free schoolbags, books, stationery items and sweet along with dry milk were distributed among students on the occasion. In the end, elder women were given saplings who planted them. –GH Farooqui
