Chitral varsity PD grilled for kidnapping claim

Zulfiqar Ahmad

CHITRAL: The project director (PD) of the University of Chitral, Prof Badshah Munir Bukhari, was questioned for hours at the Chitral town police station and ‘humiliated’, according to social media.

Sources in the police told ChitralToday that police guards had been provided to Prof Bukhari after he complained to authorities about threats to his life from Daesh about a year ago. The police security guards were, however, withdrawn from him recently.
About two weeks ago, the sources said, the PD claimed that militants kidnapped him and let him free after keeping him in their custody for over a week. This promoted the police to probe the claim. The police then called the PD to the Chitral police station.

The sources said officials from the police and other law enforcement agencies grilled the PD about his claim of being kidnapped by militants. He was questioned about the number of militants and how they took him away etc. The PD told the officials that two militants held him from his arms and picked him up and then took him away. But one of the officials laughed it off and told the burly PD that at least 10 men would be needed to pick him up.

The sources said after almost whole night of questioning, the PD spilled the beans and said nobody had kidnapped him. After this, he was allowed to go.
The sources said the police had submitted a report to the authorities conceded of the education department about the matter.

Prof Bukhari could not be contacted by ChitralToday for his comments on the matter.
