Garam Chashma road still not fully opened, residents want speedy work

On the other hand, elected representatives from the valley lose no opportunity to shower praise on the C&W department and the local administration officials whenever a portion of the road is cleared of the snow and boulders. On the other hand, except for Datsuns the road is still closed for all other vehicles, creating lots of hardship for the residents who remain stranded in their areas in the valley. Reports said people had to carry patients on their back for four to five hours to take them to nearby health centers while there was also a severe shortage of medicines and food items. Some residents of the area told this correspondent on phone that work on the opening of the road was too slow and whatever had been opened that too was done on the pressure of the army. They said educational institutions were about to reopen after the winter break in a few days after which the students would be facing troubles in reaching their schools and back homes. Children who are enrolled in schools and colleges in the Chitral town would also be not able to reach their institutes. The residents called upon the government to expedite the work on the opening of the vital road without any further delay by using heavy machinery to remove the snow and debris.–Bashir Hussain Azad]]>
