Misuse of relief items: PTI asked to take action against district admin

He said if the PTI government did not initiate action against the deputy commissioner Chitral and his assistant commissioners and other officials, the people of the area would be forced to believe that both the provincial government and the local administration were involved in corruption. A few days ago, PTI chairman Imran Khan announced that his party was introducing a new system to check corruption under which any citizen reporting about corruption in any department would get 25pc of the looted money. The name of the whistle blower would be kept in secrecy, Imran khan added.

“I do not want to keep my name in secrecy and publicly announce that the district administration of Chitral misused the relief items sent by Saudi Arabia and China for the flood and quake-affected people of Chitral. The reports in the local media about the misuse of the tents and other relief items by the DC and his ACs and other officers in Shandur during the annual festival is the tip of the iceberg. They have kept most of the foreign goods in stores instead of distributing them among the people who needed them the most.”

He said people in Brep, Kargin, Garam Chashma, Ursun and Mulkhow etc were rendered homeless by the floods and the 2015 earthquake and needed tents and other items but they were provided third-class and worn-out tents that could not withstand the heat and cold winds or rain. He said it was also unfortunate that relief items such as bed sheets, quilts etc sent for the affected people of Chitral by the Sindh government were also found under the use of the government officials in Shandur. Mr Pervez said there were solid proofs of the misuse of relief items by the district administration headed by the deputy commissioner Osama Ahmad Waraich and the people of Chitral expect that the PTI government would waste no time and initiate an impartial inquiry to punish the culprits. He said if the provincial government hesitated to take action against the DC and other officials and if they were not suspended forewith to ensure a transparent investigation, the people of the district would believe that all the claims by the PTI about zero tolerance for corruption were a drama and the party leaders and the  government officials were hands in glove in corruption. He said if action was not taken against the officials, his organization of the elected nazims would give a call for organizing protests against the misuse of the relief items and the government’s apathy to rehabilitate the flood and quake-affected people of Chitral.]]>
