Labour Day and contemporary issues

sherInternational Labor Day is celebrated annually on May 1. This day is a national holiday in more than 80 countries and also celebrated unofficially in many other countries. Labour Day has its origins in the labour union movement. It originated from the United States labor union movement in the late 19th century, specifically the eight-hour day movement which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest for the labour in many countries. Pakistan has been celebrating Labour Day since independence (1947) just after becoming a member of the International Labour Union. Some countries vary the actual date of their celebrations so that the holiday occurs on a Monday close to 1 May. Labor Day/May Day is celebrated to pay tributes to the contributions workers have made to make the world strong and prosper. In present economics condition of Pakistan, labour suffer harshly. The energy crisis/loadshedding increased the labour’s problems to new height. Lots of industries are not working due to the shortage of light. When industries are closed its result os unemployment among the working class. The circumstances affect labour class directly and indirectly. Unemployment creates frustration among the people, which cause social problems including increased robbery suicide ratios and many others. Many old factories have been introducing modern automatic machinery to perform tasks previously done by workers. This is done mainly to increase productivity. But in some cases it has meant the elimination of jobs for the labour. A major criticism of the labor movement has been that its traditional demand for higher wages and better working conditions. Labors also face unfair wages problem in many areas of Pakistan. To overcome the entirelabours problem we need to improve our resources. We are presently living in the era of globalization, where we need to walk with the world. This would only been done by solving labours problem and issues. labour class is the back bone of any country’s economy. And economy is the only way of success. Government need to take serious steps toward labour right need to solve energy crises on priority basis. Have check on private industries also improve the resources as per requirement. Also provide fair wages to labour that can full fill their basic necessities. The resolution of these problems help in developing trust worthy and comfortable environment in industries of Pakistan , both for labour and investors. The labour needs some serious efforts from power corridors to gets their issue resolved. Labour class of any country plays a vital role in nation buildings.   6. unfortunately pakistan Govt treat the labour very harshly..The Govt unable to provide the basic rights of labour and also masive number of childs labour are working factory,road etc..

  10. its 1st may labour day celebrating all over the world…… but still in pakistan labourers are facing lot of problems but its the responsibility of state to provide better working conditions to labours alongwith free medical, housing and educational facilities to labours.
