Imran all praise for Chitralis' resilience, high morale

BOONI (UPPER CHITRAL), July 23: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan here on Thursday afternoon said he was with the people of Chitral during the testing times and the KP government would never leave the affected people alone till the rehabilitation of the displaced families and restoration of the damaged infrastructures.

I will always be with you,” he told a large gathering of people who had gathered to welcome him here. Imran arrived here in a helicopter after visiting the flood-affected people of Garam Chashma.
Mr Khan was accompanied by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Speaker KP assembly Asad Qaiser and information minister Mushtaq Ghani.
The PTi chief said the floods had created lots of issues in the Chitral valley with damages to roads, bridges and standing crops. He said in the Garam Chashma valley alone potatoes worth over Rs2 billion were at the risk of being spoiled as the road to the area was blocked. He said the government’s priority should be to restore the damaged roads and bridges as soon as possible and start the reconstruction and rehabilitation activities.
imran2The PTI chief said the main treasure of a nation was human resource and you have this asset but the need is to exploit and utilize it for development. He said a university would be set up in Chitral to provide the youth with an opportunity to get higher education without going to other cities.
He also paid tributes to the people of Chitral for maintaining peace in the area. “I appreciate your culture and tradition of peace; you do not need the police and thana (police station) to maintain peace and the whole country should learn a lesson from you.”
Mr Khan said the holding of the local government elections in the province was itself a revolution in which people would be empowered to decide their affairs on their own. He said whoever forms a government in the district of Chitral would be provided sufficient funds for the development of the area.
imran“We are going to give autonomy to public sector institutions rather than privatizing them.” He said the biggest issue in Chitral had always been corruption, adding funds allocated for the construction of roads and bridges ended up in the pockets of some individuals. As a result, even before the devastating floods, all roads in the valley were in a dilapidated conditions.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said within three weeks all issues in the flood hit areas would be resolved. He said Rescue 1122 would be established in Chitral while farmers would be provided seeds free of costs.
About the demand to give the status of district to upper Chitral, the chief minister said that a survey would be carried out and if it was possible after the survey the demand would be met. He said that powerhouses would be established in each and every stream of Chitral besides other steps to put Chitral on track of development.
MPA Sardar Hussain, MPA Fouzia Bibi, PTI leader Rehmat Ghazi and tehsil nazim-elect Sardar Hakim also spoke on the occasion.
