Benazir's death anniversary goes unnoticed in upper Chitral
BOONI, Dec 27: For the first time, the PPP activists in upper Chitral could not observe the death anniversary of their party’s chairperson Benazir Bhutto on December 27.
Ms Bhutto was assassinated in a bomb and gun attack after a public gathering at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi, on December 27, 2007. Since then, the party’s Chitral chapter, including upper Chitral, observed the death anniversary of Ms Bhutto.
Talking to ChitralToday here, Shahab Uddin, a founding member of the PPP from Mulkhow; Baboo Ghulam, Mir Muhammad, Rehman Baig, Sher Alam, Muhammad Khan, Amir Ali, Shah Rehmat, Rehmat Wazir, Sarfaraz and Rehmat Salam regretted that there was no function arranged by the party’s local chapter to pay tribute to Ms Bhutto on his martyrdom day on Dec 27. They said it was due to the negligence of PPP Chitral president MPA Saleem Khan and upper Chitral MPA Sardar Hussain that there was no event arranged on the day.
They said it was regrettable that the people of Chitral elected Saleem Khan and Sardar Hussain as the members of the KP assembly but these two representatives of the people even could not hold a gathering on the martyrdom day of Ms Bhutto. They said the PPP workers in upper Chitral were very disheartened on the day. They said that they were expecting that the two MPA would come to Chitral on the occasion and observe the day with the workers. Had we know that the MPAs would remain busy in their personal works in Peshawar, like in the past we would have arranged a workers gathering on our own.
The PPP workers also demanded of the party leadership to take action against the two MPAs from Chitral for ignoring the sentiments of the workers and skipping the event.
However, a function was held at the town hall Chitral by the PPP lower Chitral to pay tribute to the slain PPP leader, Syed Nazir Hussain reported.
The gathering was presided over by senior vice-president PPP Chitral Burhan Uddin Advocate. A large number of PPP local leaders and activists from different areas of lower Chitral attended the event. The speakers on the occasion vowed to continue working to accomplish the mission of the PPP leader.]]>
