Three-month power cut angers Drosh residents

DRSOH, June 1: For the last about three months, electricity supply from the Shishi powerhouse to the Drosh town and its adjacent villages remains suspended. \"drosh\"As the repeated deadlines for the restoration of the power supply given to the local notables by Assistant Commissioner Basharat Ahmed could not be met, a wave of anger and disappointment prevailed among the residents. In this regard, a consultative meeting was held in which the residents discussed various options including launching of a protest move against the government’s failure to restore the power supply to the areas even in the scorching heat. The meeting was attended by almost all notables, political leaders and representatives of civil society and the drivers union. The AC Drosh, Engineer Aftab of the powerhouse and other officials concerned were also present in the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, former UC nazim Abdul Bari highlighted the background to the maintenance of the powerhouse and frequent promises made in different meetings about the restoration of electricity supply to the town. AC Basharat Ahmed spoke about the handing over of the powerhouse from HydroTech to Shydo and government’s efforts to repair it. He said he had made all efforts to repair the powerhouse and soon supply of electricity would be restored.
