PTI women wing chief arriving in Chitral to set party house in order

ISLAMABAD, May 18: Dr Munaza Hassan, MNA and the president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s women wing, is all set to visit Chitral on May 22 on the directives of party chairman Imran Khan.
Well-placed sources who declined to be named told ChitralToday that the party’s Chitral chapter stood divided into two groups with each claiming to be loyal to the party chairman Imran Khan, putting the already diminishing popularity of the party at stake.
Talking to ChitralToday on Sunday, Dr Munaza confirmed that she was going to Chitral to take stock of the situation and would brief the party chairman upon her return that how it worked and what could be done to streamline the party so that it could come up to the expectations of the people.
The sources privy to the development said the visit of Dr Munaza to Chitral, who is a close aide to Imran Khan and has been associated with the party since 1996, might result in reshuffling of the party’s district leadership. They said the provincial leadership of the party was also not happy with some of the top district office-bearers in Chitral and accused them in ditching former MPA Ghulam Mohammad in the recently held re-polling in seven controversial polling stations of upper Chitral.
According to them, PTI was optimistic that it would easily win the re-elections in the seven polling stations, adding this was the reason it had sent Azam Khan Swati, PTI provincial president, to muster support for Ghulam Mohammad who was an ally of the PTI-led coalition government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The sources said the defeat of Ghulam Mohammad of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) came as a shock to Chief Minister Pervez Khattak who had great expectations from the district leadership of his party.
The issue became further controversial after Ghulam Mohammad accused the local leadership of PTI of playing the role of a ‘friend in sheep’s clothing’. Chief Minister Khattak has a track record of settling scores with people who turn down his directives and in this particular case of re-polling, he is said to be not happy with his party’s district leadership.
However, the sources maintained that accusations of timber smuggling by a senior PTI leader in Chitral coupled with turning down the directives of the chief minister in extending support to Ghulam Mohammad in the re-elections might cost dearly to some who wanted to run the party in their own style.
Besides, the sources also said intense lobbying was underway by an influential lady from Peshawar to persuade a ‘young prince’ of Chitral to join the PTI which, the sources within PTI Chitral, declared will be the last nail in the coffin of the party in the area. When asked, Dr Munaza expressed complete ignorance about the ‘prince’ and insisted that her visit was purely meant to organize the women wing besides giving a detailed report to party chairman Imran Khan about the position of the party in the district.
This is to inform you that the scheduled visit of Dr Munaza Hassan to Chitral on May 22, 2014, has been cancelled due to bad weather. The visit was cancelled due to rains as she planned to visit far flung areas of the district like Mastuj, Booni, Garam Chashma, etc. She will visit the district in June.
