CHITRAL, May 9: General Officer Commanding (GOC) 45 Engineering Division Maj-General Rao Major General Akhtar Jamil Rao said Pakistan Army is committed to improving the quality of life of the people of Chitral besides guarding the frontiers of the country.
He was speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of two women vocational training centres in Chitral on Friday. He said the people of Chitral were patriotic, polite and highly educated and they stood by the Army in every critical time. That’s why Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, corps commander Peshawar Lt-Gen Khalid Rabbani and he himself held them in high esteem. He said in the past terrorists had tried to sabotage the exemplary peace of Chitral from across the border. Now all the borders of Chitral have been thickly guarded by the Army and the nefarious designs of the terrorists would be foiled, he added. He said what made Chitral unique in the country was the high ratio of education among its women.
Pak Army has decided to open two vocational training centres for the women of Chitral with the financial assistance of the United Arab Emirates government. He said certificates and diploma level courses would be taught in the centres to enable the women of Chitral to earn livelihood for their families.
The GOC said that training and skill programmes like computer technology, cooking, knitting, sewing, embroidery, glass painting and computer would be imparted to the women of the area in order to empower them. He said more such projects in education, health and water supply sectors were in the pipeline to uplift the life standard of Chitral people.
Speaking on the occasion, lawyer Sahib Nadir thanked the Army for working for the welfare of Chitrali people and ensuring security in the district.
He said Chitral would stand shoulder to shoulder with the Army in rooting out terrorism from the country. He assured the GOC of all support from Chitrali people for the completion of uplift projects.
