GB Cut Off After Rain and Landsliding

Gilgit, March 11, 2026: Heavy rain and landslides have blocked several sections of the Karakoram Highway in Upper Kohistan, disrupting road access between Gilgit-Baltistan and other areas of Pakistan.
According to officials, multiple points along the highway were closed due to landslides triggered by continuous rainfall. As a result, the region’s land connection with the rest of the country has been temporarily cut off.
Authorities said rescue and road-clearing operations are currently underway to restore traffic. The blockage has caused long queues of hundreds of passenger and cargo vehicles stranded along the route.
The GB administration confirmed that 60 stranded travelers have been moved to a temporary shelter for safety.
Meanwhile, light rain has also begun in several areas of Khyber Pakthunkhwa after a long dry spell. The rainfall has lowered temperatures and made the weather cooler and more pleasant.
Different areas in Chitral also received rain with the Met Office forecasting the wet spell to continue.
