Afghan Refugees Start Returning from Chitral

CHITRAL, Sept 2, 2025: In the wake of the government’s decision and the officially announced deadline concerning Afghan refugees, families who had been residing in Chitral for several decades have now begun their journey back to their homeland.

According to available details with ChitralToday, during the last two days, six to seven families have departed through the Lowari Tunnel, heading towards Torkham.

The district administration has ensured dignified repatriation by arranging transport facilities, providing food and drinking water for the travelers, and extending medical assistance wherever required.

Local residents described the departure as an emotional and heart-wrenching moment, observing that after living together for decades in harmony, the sudden separation has left both the Afghan families and the people of Chitral deeply saddened.

Sources have confirmed that in the coming days, more Afghan families currently settled in Chitral will also be returning to their native land.
