Schools unlikely to get textbooks on time

Over 380 community schools set up to promote girls’ education

PESHAWAR: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has claimed notable progress in improving access to girls’ education across the province, including remote areas like Chitral.

Under a key education initiative, the government has established 387 community-based schools, currently serving more than 26,000 students, with a majority being girls.

According to the Department of Education, these community schools aim to provide flexible and non-formal learning opportunities, especially in regions where conventional schooling is limited.

The schools are designed to meet local needs and reduce long-standing barriers to education for girls in rural and underserved communities.

Officials say this grassroots approach reflects both the government’s commitment to inclusive education and the increasing trust of local communities in public-sector efforts to empower young girls through learning.

The initiative also aligns with broader goals of education reform in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, focusing on quality, accessibility, and gender equality in education, particularly for remote districts like Upper and Lower Chitral.
