BOONI: Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) have been formed in three villages in Upper Chitral during a three-day training.
The training, \”Restoring social services and climate resilience\” was jointly organized by HUJRA and the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), aimed to build local preparedness and resilience against climate-induced disasters, says a statement by the DC office.
The ERTs were trained in key life-saving skills including CPR, first aid and evacuation procedures. They are now equipped to assist affected communities during emergencies. In addition, a stockpile of emergency supplies has been established in Harchin for immediate use during disaster situations.
The training covered essential topics such as gender-based violence, community-based disaster risk management, human rights, home-based disaster risk management, free medical camp and infrastructure awareness.
The closing session was attended by Muhammad Anwar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance and Planning Upper Chitral, and Planning Officer Shamsheer Ali Khan, representing the deputy commissioner. They commended the initiative and emphasized the significance of enhancing community-level disaster response capabilities.
The active involvement of youth and women was noted as a positive outcome of the training. Emergency kits were distributed to ERT members at the end of the session.
