BOONI: Chitral Development Movement (CDM) President Shabbir Ahmed has said an amount of Rs1 million was spent on a small bridge built using substandard material by the PTI government in the area of the party\’s tehsil chairman in Washich village of Upper Chitral.
He claimed that officials and contractors misused the funds allocated for the Washich bridge project and constructed a dangerously substandard structure.
In a statement, Shabbir Ahmed said, Washich bridge is a symbol of corruption and negligence. The authorities wasted public funds, used poor-quality materials, and completely failed to ensure proper oversight. This poses a threat to public safety and must be investigated immediately.
He said local residents had been seeking an investigation into the wastage of public funds and construction of a substandard bridge. The bridge has already begun to crack and degrade despite being recently completed. The locals have warned that it could collapse any time, especially during heavy rains.
The community filed several complaints with the relevant departments, but officials allegedly ignored them. Residents now demand that the government take immediate notice, investigate those involved, and hold them accountable.
The allegations have raised questions about the quality and transparency of development work carried out by the PTI government. Locals said they won’t remain silent until the government reconstructs the bridge safely and punishes those responsible.
