Chitral Islamian Association elects new president

PESHAWAR: The Chitral Islamian Association\’s presidential election for the term 2024-25 was held at the Islamia College Peshawar, marking a historic milestone as female students also cast their votes for the first time.

The election was presided over by M. Kashif, former president of the CIA. Muhammad Hammad and Akhtesham Nawab Zareen contested for the position. After counting of the votes, Ahtesham Nawab emerged victorious with an impressive 168 votes out of a total of 273 while Muhammad Hammad secured 105 votes.

The election was significant because it marked a major step for gender equality and student empowerment. For the first time, female students were able to exercise their right to vote and have a say in the leadership of their association. This milestone is a testament to the progress and inclusivity of the Chitral Islamian Association.

Former president M. Kashif congratulated the new president and hoped that he would serve the students to the ebst of his capacity. He said the CIA was founded in 2014 aimed at serving the students of Chitral and its mission was to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for the students.

He said during his tenure, the association organized various activities aimed at promoting student welfare. These initiatives included quizzes, tours and other recreational activities designed to foster a sense of community and camaraderie among students.

In his victory speech, the new president, Ahtesham Nawab, expressed his gratitude to the voters and pledged to work tirelessly for the betterment of the association. He vowed to always stand up for the rights of students, including female students, and ensure their welfare.

The voters congratulated the new president and expressed the hope that he will serve the association with dedication, commitment and integrity.
