Gender Awareness Session Held in Booni

Booni, June 16, 2026: A district-level safeguarding and gender awareness session was organized by Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Pakistan (AKAHP) here on Tuesday.

The session focused on key issues, including safeguarding, sexual exploitation, harassment prevention, accountability mechanisms, and complaint registration procedures.

During the event, participants were given a detailed presentation on protection measures and reporting systems.

Addressing the session, Deputy Commissioner Upper Chitral Muhammad Imran Khan highlighted existing laws and preventive strategies related to sexual exploitation and safeguarding.

He stressed the importance of ensuring immediate support and justice for victims.
He stated that a District Harassment Committee had been established to address such cases, while a Women Desk at Police Lines Upper Chitral was fully functional to receive complaints related to harassment and exploitation for timely legal action.

The deputy commissioner emphasized the need for continuous awareness sessions to prevent such incidents and noted that efforts are underway to include these topics in educational curricula.

Responding to a proposal from participants, he assured positive progress toward establishing a self-defense academy for women. He also appreciated the role of Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Pakistan in promoting awareness and termed such initiatives essential for building a safer and more informed society.
