Brep, Feb 19, 2026: Residents of Brep once again held a protest to demand proper mobile phone service, giving the administration a one-week deadline to resolve a persistent network issue.
The prolonged issue centers around Telenor Tower No. 55 in Khotanlasht, which has remained non-functional for the past two months due an out of order generator.
Residents of Brep, Khotanlasht, Istach and Diwangol are forced to live without network access, while local political leadership and district authorities have not taken the matter seriously.
As a result, students from local schools and colleges joined the protest today, warning the government that if the generator of Tower No. 55 is not replaced within seven days, the locals will march toward the tower on February 26, and stage a massive demonstration, including setting fire to the generator and booster, until a new tower is approved for Brep.
During the protest, a large number of students expressed concern over upcoming annual exams after the winter holidays, stating that the absence of network access had caused them extreme difficulties. They appealed to the deputy speaker Khyber Pakthunkhwa and the DC Upper Chitral to provide either Jazz network or landline services to Brep.
Meanwhile, preparations for the February 26 demonstration are underway, with organizers urging the administration to take the following demands seriously:
Immediate removal of the problematic generator from Tower No. 55. Swift approval and installation of a new tower in Brep.
It is important to note that the generator in question was previously in poor condition at Parwak, and was relocated to Brep overnight, and has since caused a complete network outage. Telenor engineers admitted that further repairs are impossible, but higher officials insist the residents “make do” with it.
The generator’s worn-out engine now produces excessive noise, and its yellow color has faded to black due to long-term neglect.
