Drosh, Jan 13, 2026: Renowned religious, social, and political figure Qari Jamal Abdul Nasir has urged the district administration to immediately review transport fares between Chitral and Peshawar, Dir, Timergara, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad, and fix them on a per-kilometre basis in line with the practices in other parts of the country.
In a statement, Qari Jamal Abdul Nasir said that following the completion of the Lowari Tunnel and the construction of the tunnel approach road from Ashiret, Chitral’s land connectivity has become not only safer but also much easier. Therefore, he added, there is no justification for continuing the outdated and unfair fare system.
He said that in the past transport fares in Chitral were determined on different grounds due to its unique geographical conditions and poor road infrastructure; however, the situation has now completely changed.
Qari Jamal Abdul Nasir stated that transport fares in other regions of the country are fixed on a per-kilometre basis, and hence discrimination against the people of Chitral should be brought to an end.
He added that with improved road conditions and a significant reduction in fuel prices, the direct benefit should be passed on to the general public rather than remaining limited to transport owners.
He urged the district administration to issue a new, transparent, and fair official notification for transport fares on the Chitral–Peshawar, Chitral–Dir, and Chitral–Timergara routes so that the inflation-hit public can receive real relief.
