ISLAMABAD, Dec 6, 2025: The families of two young women who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in the federal capital have pardoned the teenage driver responsible for the collision, leading to the formal closure of the case, officials said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Abu Zar, 16, son of a sitting high court judge, was presented before Judicial Magistrate Shaista Kundi at the District and Sessions Court after completion of his four-day physical remand. During the hearing, the families of both victims told the court they had chosen to forgive the driver.
The brother of one of the deceased women appeared in person to record his statement, while the court recorded her mother’s testimony online. The father of the second victim also submitted his statement, confirming the family’s decision to pardon the accused.
Following the settlement, the court approved the accused’s bail and ordered his release, bringing the legal proceedings to an end.
The accident took place five days earlier at Secretariat Chowk on Constitution Avenue, when a speeding land cruiser struck a scooter carrying the two women, identified as Samreen and Tabinda, both employees of the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA). Both suffered fatal injuries.
A First Information Report (FIR) had been registered at the Secretariat Police Station on the complaint of Samreen’s brother. Police later arrested Abu Zar and secured his physical remand for investigation.
According to the prosecution, the accused was unable to produce a driving licence or identity card at the time of arrest. He also admitted to driving recklessly, telling investigators he had been recording a Snapchat video moments before the crash.
A day earlier, the father of the deceased Tabinda had stated that the father of the accused personally visited the family and acknowledged that his son was responsible for the fatal accident.
