Chitral, Dec 6, 2025: The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) Chitral organized an event at a hotel in Lower Chitral to celebrate International Volunteerd Day and honor selfless service.
Government officials, AKAH volunteers, and community members attended the ceremony. The organizers also invited notable individuals from across Lower Chitral who have made outstanding contributions to humanity.
During the event, Regional Program Manager Wali Muhammad, Assistant Commissioner Riyaz Ahmed, Manager of the Emergency Management Department Javed Ahmed, Director General of Kalash Valleys Development Authority Minhasuddin and President of the Regional Council of Lower Chitral Zafaruddin spoke about the importance of volunteerism in society.
They said volunteers serve as invaluable assets, contributing selflessly to community development without expecting financial gain.
The speakers said the United Nations first declared International Volunteer Day in 1985 to honor trained volunteers for their assistance during natural disasters and emergencies, and to inspire young people to participate in social service.
AKAH Chitral has formed Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) to train and raise awareness among residents in remote areas about disaster preparedness.
The event concluded with organizers distributing certificates and shields to volunteers in recognition of their dedicated service to society.
