LONDON, Dec 5, 2025: Pakistani and Bangladeshi students are encountering fresh challenges in the United Kingdom as several British universities have temporarily halted their admission processes for applicants from the two countries.
According to recent reports, nine UK universities have paused admissions for students from Pakistan and Bangladesh. Institutions such as the University of Chester, the University of Wolverhampton, the University of East London, the University of Sunderland, and Coventry University, among others, have stopped processing new applications.
These universities have reportedly taken this measure in response to a growing number of students from both nations seeking political asylum after arriving in the UK. This rising trend has raised concerns about potential misuse of the student visa system.
The UK’s Minister for Border Security, Angela Eagle, stated that the visa system must not serve as a “backdoor” for long-term settlement.
A recent report also revealed that Pakistan was among the leading countries whose citizens submitted asylum applications in the UK last year.
Meanwhile, several other British universities are currently reviewing and considering adjustments to their admission policies for students from Pakistan and Bangladesh.
