CHITRAL: The Civil Defence Department of Lower Chitral is carrying forward a series of emergency preparedness training programmes in educational institutions, equipping students with vital knowledge and hands-on skills to respond effectively to disasters and emergencies.
The department launched the campaign on October 1, following special directives from Director Civil Defence Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Zahid Usman Kakakhel and Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral Mr. Rao Hashim Azeem. A team of trained Civil Defence instructors, led by Civil Defence Officer Mr. Kaleem Ullah, is visiting various schools and colleges to deliver the sessions.
The initiative involves several prominent institutions, including the Government Post Graduate College of Management Sciences Lower Chitral, Government Higher Secondary School Ayun, Government High School Hon, and the Al-Khidmat School System Lower Chitral.
Civil Defence instructors conduct a blend of theoretical lessons and practical training during regular class periods. They teach students key topics such as firefighting, rescue operations, first aid, and incident control management, ensuring that participants gain a well-rounded understanding of emergency response methods.
The programme instills discipline, self-confidence, leadership qualities, and civic responsibility in students while building a culture of preparedness in schools. Instructors use demonstrations, group activities, and simulated emergency drills to create realistic scenarios. Students respond with keen interest, enthusiasm, and discipline, which reflects their growing awareness and commitment to community safety.
Civil Defence Officer Mr. Kaleem Ullah told ChitralToday that the campaign is progressing successfully and significantly enhances students’ practical capabilities, improves their response skills, and strengthens community safety awareness across Lower Chitral. He added that the department will continue expanding such programmes to prepare youth for future emergencies and to promote a safer, more resilient society.
