Chitral, Aug 25, 2025: Authorities have evacuated a total of 302 residents from Golen, Arkari, and Madaklasht following a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) alert.
The residents were moved to secure camps as a precautionary measure to protect lives and property from potential flooding caused by glacial lake outbursts. The evacuation was overseen by Deputy Commissioner Rao Hashim Azeem, who also held a public awareness session in Madaklasht.
He explained the potential dangers of GLOFs and necessary safety measures, urging residents to stay in safe locations, follow instructions, and rely on verified information. He also warned against believing rumors.
According to ChitralToday, the relocation highlights the authorities’ proactive measures in response to the flood risk in the region. Officials emphasized the importance of community cooperation and adherence to safety protocols during this period.
Local residents moved to the camps and are expected to remain there until the threat subsides. The session and evacuation were part of ongoing efforts to manage risks and improve preparedness in Lower Chitral.
