Terich Mir base camp trekking completes

CHITRAL: The first phase of the much-anticipated Terich Mir Base Camp trekking has been successfully completed by a group of 20 trekkers under the organization of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA).

This exciting trekking expedition to the Terich Mir Base Camp, which started on July 13, marks a significant boost for tourism in Chitral and promotes adventure tourism in the region.

The trekking group, which included participants from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, and other areas, embarked on a 7-day journey beginning from Chitral. Their route started with a jeep ride to Shagram Valley, followed by a challenging and scenic trek through Shenyak Camp, Shughur Byasam, Astor Nal Valley and finally reaching the Babu Base Camp of Terich Mir, situated at an altitude of 4,720 meters.

Key trekking distances covered include:

  • Shogram Valley to Shenyak Camp: 12.7 km

  • Shenyak Camp to Shughur Byasam: 9.1 km

  • Shughur Byasam to Astoro Nal Valley: 9.7 km

  • Astor Nal Valley to Babu Base Camp: 8.7 km

This trekking initiative is part of a larger effort to develop eco-tourism in Chitral and create opportunities for local communities while attracting domestic and international adventure seekers.

Two more trekking groups are scheduled to undertake the Base Camp trek soon, with a male group departing on July 25 and a female group set to begin their expedition on August 8.

KPCTA Director General Habib Ullah Arif highlighted the importance of such projects in strengthening the local economy and establishing Chitral as a premier destination for trekking and mountaineering in Pakistan.

This successful completion of the first phase of Terich Mir trekking opens new doors for tourism development and adventure sports in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reinforcing Chitral’s position on the map of top trekking destinations.
