CHITRAL: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has officially launched the Terichmir Summit 2025, a major trekking and tourism event aimed at promoting eco-tourism and mountain adventure in Chitral.
Trekking groups have started their journey in three separate batches toward the Tirichmir Base Camp, located in the heart of the Hindu Kush mountain range. The base camp serves as a gateway to Tirich Mir, the highest peak in Pakistan outside the Karakoram range.
According to Umar Khan, Director of Tourism, the event has received an enthusiastic response, particularly from women. Over 100 female trekkers applied to join, and 20 experienced women have already joined the initial batches. A special all-women trekking group is scheduled to depart in the first week of August.
Former MPA and tourism advocate Bibi Fouzia praised the initiative, calling it a breakthrough for women in adventure tourism.
“This is a big step forward not just for tourism in Chitral, but for empowering women across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” she said.
To further encourage trekking and mountaineering in the region, the provincial government has also waived the mountaineering royalty fee for two years, making expeditions to peaks like Tirich Mir more accessible for both local and international adventurers.
The Tirichmir event is expected to attract national and international attention, highlighting Chitral’s unique landscape, rich culture, and potential as a premier adventure tourism destination in Pakistan.
