Asphalt Work on Chitral–Booni Road Inaugurated on July 13, 2025

Asphalt work inaugurated on Chitral-Booni road

CHITRAL: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has officially launched asphalting work on the Chitral–Booni Road at Kari.

This project follows the successful paving of the Lowari Tunnel approach road and aims to improve travel conditions between Chitral town and Booni, said PML-N Chitral spokesman Niaz A. Niazi Advocate on Sunday.

A formal inauguration and prayer ceremony was held at the site in Kari today, he said. NHA officials and representatives of the contractor company attended the event.

They assured that the work would continue without delays and will be completed up to Booni within the specified timeframe. The prayer (dua) was led by Qari Hafeezuddin Shahid.

It may be mentioned here that work is progressing on the stalled important Chitral–Shandur Road project, which connects Chitral with Gilgit-Baltistan via the historic Shandur Pass.

The project involves upgrading and widening the existing road to ensure safer, year-round connectivity despite the region’s challenging mountainous terrain.

The NHA has stated that modern engineering standards will be applied to improve road safety and durability.

Once completed, the Chitral–Shandur Road is expected to significantly reduce travel time and boost local economies by facilitating smoother transport of goods and tourism between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
