Contractor to repair road damaged by bulldozer: police

GARAM CHASHMA: Police in Garam Chashma briefly detained a local contractor after a viral video surfaced showing a bulldozer damaging the main road leading to the scenic valley, sparking public outrage.

According to DSP Lotkoh Hasanullah, the contractor has signed a formal undertaking pledging to repair the damage. Failure to comply will result in strict legal action, the DSP warned.

In response to the incident, a community meeting was held at the Garam Chashma Police Station, chaired by DSP Hasanullah. Key attendees included SHO Rahim Baig, SI Munir, village council chairmen, representatives from the Drivers’ Union, and members of civil society.

“Our roads are national assets. Damaging them is not just irresponsible—it’s illegal,” DSP Hasanullah emphasized. “We will take strong action against anyone harming public infrastructure.”

He added that the police would soon issue an official public notice banning the discharge of wastewater onto roads. Residents must build proper drainage systems, or face prosecution under local and national laws.

Community leaders support strict measures

Village council leaders — Alauddin (Parabeg), Nawab Khan (Izj), Sher Nawaz (Barzen), and Abdul Qayum (Oveer) — praised the police\’s quick intervention and vowed full cooperation.

Sher Nawaz highlighted that maintaining roads is a shared community responsibility, adding:

“Public property must be protected. We also need united efforts against drug trafficking and social issues.”

Drivers urged to remain vigilant

Drivers’ Union President Rahmat Hussain was instructed to:

  • Keep drivers alert to suspicious passengers or cargo.

  • Prevent overcharging during emergencies or natural disasters.

A community focal person briefed attendees on the importance of transparency, public monitoring, and community participation in road maintenance efforts.

Police commit to road safety

DSP Hasanullah assured that the police will act swiftly on confidential reports about road damage or drug trafficking, promising full protection for whistleblowers.

The Garam Chashma Police reiterated their commitment to:

  • Preserve road infrastructure

  • Protect national assets

  • Crack down on narcotics

  • Uphold public interest
