CHITRAL: A flash flood struck the village of Gasht in Laspur Valley (Upper Chitral) on Friday evening, partially damaging two houses and affecting crops.
Rescue 1122 teams responded promptly after receiving information, reaching the site to assist with relief efforts and help residents secure damaged property.
Officials attributed the flooding to increased runoff from rapidly melting snow and glaciers, driven by unusually high temperatures in Upper Chitral.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a flood alert for July 5–11, warning of rising river levels throughout the region. Residents living near rivers and streams are urged to exercise extreme caution during this period.
Authorities have specifically advised the public to avoid bathing, camping, or picnicking near rivers and streams to reduce the risk of accidents from sudden flooding.
Local residents have called on the district administration and disaster management officials for close monitoring and timely support to prevent further losses during the current monsoon and glacier-melt season.
