CHITRAL: A special veterinary team was sent to Golen Valley on July 3rd and 4th after an outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) was reported in the area.
According to the district administration of Lower Chitral, the team treated infected animals showing symptoms, vaccinated healthy animals to prevent further spread, and held awareness sessions for local livestock owners on early detection, prevention, and biosecurity practices.
Officials claimed that the prompt response helped control the outbreak and protect the region’s livestock. Monitoring and follow-up measures will continue.
Foot and mouth disease affects animals like cows, sheep, goats. It is caused by a virus and spreads very easily from one animal to another. Sick animals get a fever and develop blisters in their mouth and on their feet.
The disease does not usually make people sick. To control it, animals can be vaccinated, sick animals can be treated, and farms can use good cleaning and safety measures.
