CHITRAL: The newly-elected district cabinet of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Lower Chitral has demanded immediate government action on a range of pressing local issues, including poor telecom services, flood damage relief and alleged corruption in river management projects.
According to a press statement issued by the Information and Digital Media Wing of the JUI-F Lower Chitral, in a meeting chaired by District Ameer Maulana Abdul Shakoor, the cabinet passed a resolution demanding an urgent improvement in Telenor mobile phone service in Chitral.
The party expressed deep concern over the poor quality of Telenor’s network in the district.
The cabinet also urged the government to swiftly compensate and assist residents affected by recent flooding and riverbank erosion linked to climate change.
The meeting demanded an immediate probe into alleged corruption in so-called “channelization” (diversion) projects on the Chitral River, a complete ban on such practices in the future and the construction of protective embankments on both riverbanks.
The participants welcomed the federal government’s move to begin work on the Lowari Tunnel approach road.
The cabinet thanked JUI-F provincial and central leadership for granting Chitral representation through a women’s reserved seat in the KP Assembly, and congratulated newly elected MPA Ms Arifa Bibi.
Earlier in the meeting, which began with Quran recitation and was formally opened by District General Secretary Maulana Qazi Muhammad Ilyas, the cabinet also agreed on key organizational decisions:
An immediate schedule for visits to various tehsils in Lower Chitral was finalized:
5 July: Arandu
6 July: Drosh
11 July (Friday): Lotkoh (after Friday prayers)
13 July (Sunday): Chitral town
It was resolved to further strengthen the party’s information wing, improve financial management, and reinforce the security wing (Ansar-ul-Islam).
The meeting concluded with a collective prayer for the forgiveness of all those who have passed away recently.
