KP assembly meets today

Chitral to have three reserved seat MPAs, one MNA

CHITRAL: Following the Supreme Court’s decision on reserved seats, Chitral is set to have three additional MPAs and one MNA nominated by different political parties.

Chitral has one NA and two PA seats, currently all occupied by the PTI. MNA Abdul Latif is in hiding after being convicted by an ATC in Islamabad in a May 9 case last month.

The Supreme Court recently ruled that the PTI was not eligible for the reserved seats in national and provincial assemblies after the 2024 general elections. As a result, 77 seats claimed by the PTI will now be distributed among other parties.

Ghazala Anjum, from Koghuzi village in Lower Chitral, was the PML-N nominee for National Assembly’s reserved women’s seat.

She had earlier been suspended despite taking. She now becomes the first-ever woman MNA from Chitral.

In the KP assembly, Khadija Bibi takes a reserved seat as the Awami National Party’s first-priority nominee. She is the party’s provincial vice president and previously contested a general seat from Chitral.

Arifa Bibi from Jughoor village  will occupy a reserved seat in the assembly from JUI-F.

Moreover, PPP nominee Nilofar Baber is also set to take oath in the KP assembly. She is daughter of Begum Shahzada Sulaiman, who served on the party’s central executive committee and was a close associate of the late Begum Nusrat Bhutto.–Dawn
