CHITRAL: Airport Road in Chitral is in danger of complete closure as part of it has been washed away due to erosion from Chitral River.
Last December, a private party allegedly diverted the river toward the road using heavy machinery to protect its own land.
This has severely weakened the riverbank near Chew Bridge, putting a 400-meter stretch at risk of collapsing during expected July floods.
Critics blame the National Highway Authority for ignoring warnings and failing to maintain the road.
