ISLAMABAD, June 20, 2025: A court in Islamabad on Friday approved a three-day physical remand of Umar Hayat, the alleged killer of Chitrali social media star Sana Yousaf.
The remand was granted by the court on the request of the police who said that the mobile phone of the killer was yet to be recovered for further investigation.
Sana Yousaf was murdered at her residence in Sector G-13 of Islamabad on June 2. According to police, she had two mobile phones at the time of her death, one of which was allegedly taken away by her killer. He was arrested from his hometown in Faisalabad on June 3 by Islamabad police and brought back to the federal capital.
Previously, the court had first sent him to Adiala jail for 14 days for identification parade during which the mother and an aunt identified the killer a week ago.
Later, the court granted police a four-day physical remand and had ordered that he be presented again on June 20.
Today, the alleged killer was brought to the courtroom about an hour before the hearing. Sana\’s father Yousaf Hassan also appeared in court in person for the first time.
The alleged killer was surrounded by four police officers. Sana’s father sat in the courtroom quietly, watching the proceedings.
Judicial Magistrate Hafeez Ahmed asked the alleged killer whether he had any lawyer. “No,” he replied. When asked if he wanted a lawyer, he responded, “I don’t want one.”
During the previous court appearance, the judge had asked him a similar question on which he had said he didn\’t know if his family had hired any lawyer. He then requested the court for a meeting with his family.
Sources told ChitraToday that the father of the killer had not yet come to meet his son.
Prosecutor Muhammad Naveed informed the court today that a Fortuner vehicle had been recovered from the accused, calling it “a major development.”
However, the suspect’s personal mobile phone was still missing. There were reports that the killer had hired the Fortuner and come to Islamabad to meet Sana on June 2.
ChitralToday has learnt that the alleged killer, pretending to be son of a landlord, had been threatening Sana especially after her birthday on May 29 for refusing to meet him.
On the question of the recovery of his mobile phone, the suspect claimed, “I gave my phone to an officer from CIA.” However, the prosecution responded that although the victim’s phone had been recovered from the accused, his own device was still unaccounted for.
The court then extended his physical remand for another three days, until June 23.
