Sana’s mother, aunt identify her killer in jail

ISLAMABAD: In a significant development in the murder case of Islamabad-based Chitrali social media influencer Sana Yousaf, her mother and a paternal aunt identified the suspect during an identification parade conducted at Adiala jail in Rawalpindi on Friday.

According to the Islamabad police, the identification process was carried out in the presence of an executive magistrate to ensure legal transparency.

Sources told ChitralToday that over a dozen of people of almost same age and body structure were produced for the identification parade in the jail and the mother and aunt of the deceased identified the killer.    

Police officials stated that following the successful identification, they will seek physical remand of the accused identified as Omar Hayat, a resident of Faisalabad, from court. The remand will enable investigators to gather other crucial evidence related to the case before submission of challan to court.

Sana Yousaf was shot and killed in her house located in Sector G-13/1 of Islamabad by a lone gunman on June 2, 2025. The incident sparked widespread outrage on social media and calls for swift justice.

The alleged killer of Sana was arrested from Faisalabad less than 24 hours after her murder and brought to Islamabad. Later, he was sent on 14-day judicial remand for an identification parade.

Her parents returned to Islamabad a few days ago from their home in Chuinj Upper Chitral where Sana was laid to rest.
