IGP reveals motive behind killing of Chitrali TikToker

ISLAMABAD: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi revealed during a press conference that the suspect in the murder of TikToker Sana Yousaf killed her after repeated rejections of his friendship proposal.

According to the IGP, the suspect Umar Hayat alias Kaka is a matriculate (10th-grade pass) and a resident of Faisalabad. His father is a retired government employee of Grade 16.

He said the suspect had been in contact with Sana and proposing her and also tried to meet her.  On her birthday on May 29, he repeatedly contacted her online and tried to convince her to meet him and accept his proposal. He said on June 2, he reached the vicinity of her house, tried to meet her but after about seven hours he finally entered the premises.

When the TikToker asked him to leave the house, he fired two shots on her chest and escaped. The teenage girl died on the spot.

The IGP stated that Sana Yousuf’s tragic murder is a heart-wrenching incident and posed a serious challenge for the police. The IGP emphasized that Islamabad police handled the case professionally, launching a comprehensive investigation.

He said seven police teams were formed to investigate the case. Footage from 113 CCTV cameras was collected and reviewed. Over 300 phone calls were analyzed. Investigators also examined social media and other digital evidence.

He said 11 raids were conducted to apprehend the suspect – in Islamabad, Faisalabad and Jaranwala – before his eventual arrest.

He said that the police also recovered the murder weapon and iPhone of the victim from the possession of the arrested man.

The case has sparked outrage and grief across social media with many demanding justice for the young TikToker. Her family has confirmed they can identify the suspect and is seeking swift legal action against the culprit.
