MALE: The Maldives has announced a ban on the entry of Israeli passport holders in protest against Israel’s ongoing military offensive in Gaza and in a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
According to foreign media reports, the decision reflects the Maldivian government\’s firm stance against Israeli aggression and its support for the Palestinian cause. The government stated that the move demonstrates “strong solidarity with the Palestinian people” and condemnation of Israel\’s actions in Gaza.
However, individuals holding dual nationality may still be allowed to enter the Maldives using travel documents from a second nationality, the report said.
A bill proposing the entry ban was first introduced in the Maldivian Parliament in May 2024. After several amendments, it was passed and subsequently signed into law by President Mohamed Muizzu.
The Maldives, known for its world-renowned tourist destinations, attracts thousands of Israeli tourists every year. With this new restriction, Israeli nationals will no longer be able to visit the island nation.
Bold step by Maldives, this is how countries can impose pressure on Israel to respect humanity.
