Sunni, Ismaili leaders vow to further promote harmony

BOONI: In order to promote inter-community harmony in Upper Chitral, a meeting was arranged by the district administration at the deputy commissioner office.

The meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Haseebur Rehman Khan Khalil was attended by representatives of both the Sunni and Ismaili schools of thought and the district police officer, according to a statement issued by the DC office.

The meeting was informed that people belonging to the Ismaili and Sunni schools of thought have been living in Upper Chitral for centuries respecting each other\’s traditions and religious beliefs.

The members of both the communities should continue working jointly to maintain the examplary peace and harmony in the area.

However, it was emphasized in the meeting that religious discussions on social media should be avoided as such unnecessary discussions were creating religious hatred in society.

Clerics and officials of the Ismaili Council said that they have always respected each other\’s beliefs and will continue to do so, but any unnecessary debate and discussion on both sides must be avoided so that peace can be maintained.

The deputy commissioner made a special appeal to the people of both sects to create an atmosphere of love and brotherhood among the people so peace coould be maintained.

Leaders of both the Sunni and Ismaili schools of thought renewed the pledge to further promote the sectarian harmony for the development of Upper Chitral.
