Demands of Drosh protesters accepted

CHITRAL: The demands of Drosh protesters were accepted by the government on Friday, leading to the end of the massive public agitation after five days, on Friday evening.

The protest in Drosh culminated at a shutter-down strike and blockade of the Chitral-Peshawar road on September 27.

According to a letter written by the deputy commissioner to the commissioner Malakand Division, the demands of the protesters were: zero loadshedding in Drosh subdivision and the transfer of the subdivisional officer of Water and Power Development Authority from Chitral.

The letter said that the people of Drosh staged a protest in front of the local grid station since Sept 22 and blocked the road on Sept 27.

The letter said that earlier there was loadshedding for four hours a day that  increased to 12 hours a day from Sept 18. After the launch of the protest, the duration was however decreased to seven hours a day.

It said that the district administration is surrendering the services of Nadir Shah, the SDO, who had been posted to Chitral five years ago and had also applied for his transfer out of Chitral.

The letter of the DC requested the commissioner to take up the issue of prolonged outages in Chitral and resolve in it, as 106 megawatts of electricity was produced from the Golen Gol powerhouse.
