CHITRAL: Political, religious parties, traders and civil society have said they would launch their joint protest against the district administration and police for not taking action against the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) official for misusing authority and assaulting a citizen about two weeks ago.

Representatives of political parties, traders, bar council, village councils and people from different walks of life at a meeting on September 2 had unanimously demanded that the district administration should take legal action against CPC Lower Chitral additional director Irfan Aziz for misuse of his authority and assaulting a citizen.

The incident occurred on Aug 27. But the police did not register the case after receiving an application. On September 2, political and religious parties and civil society demanded action against the CPC official. Later, a decision was made to hold a protest demonstration against the official and demanding action against him.

The deadline given to the district administration has expired, but the officers concerned are still not ready to take action and are buying time to save their colleague who had openly used Levies force to forcibly take the TCS manager to the police station and held him in illegal detention for hours.

Jamaat e Islami Lower Chitral general secretary Wajihuddin and traders union president Muhammad Nadeem in their statements said that the district administration officers did not fullfill their promise made with protesters at Ataliq bridge three days back, as neither an FIR was lodged nor the so-called investigation by the additional DC was completed.

They said that a protest will be launched at Ataliq bridge soon after Friday prayers and it will continue till their demands were met by legal action against the CPC official. –Bashir Hussain
