Judicial inquiry into May 9 violence not possible

PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court has stated that it cannot consider a request from the PTI government in Khyber Pakthunkhwa to conduct a judicial inquiry into the May 9 violence.

In a letter to the advocate general of the province, the registrar of the high court said that in it is current form the request for the formation of a judicial commission was against the government’s rules of business 1985. 

The letter was in response to a request of the advocate general for conducting a judicial inquiry into the incident.

O May, 9, 2023, PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested by Nation Accountability Bureau in a corruption case in Islamabad.

Following the arrest, the supporter of his party took to the streets and attacked military installations including the general headquarters in Rawalpindi, corps commander house in Lahore and many others in Peshawar. 

Cases were registered against PTI leaders and hundreds of activists and workers and many of them were arrested. However, the PTI has been claiming that it was a conspiracy against the party and its leaders and activities were never involved in the violence.
