Osama\’s close aid arrested

LAHORE: The Counter-Terrorism Department of Punjab has arrested a close aid to Al-Qaida founder Osama bin Laden over two decades after his elimination in Abbottabad by American forces.

The CTD said on Friday that Aminul Haq, a key fighter with Osama, was rounded up in an operation conducted on his hideout in Gujrat. Haq\’s name was included in a list of most wanted terrorists by the United Nations.

It seems intriguing, however, how the man enlisted as an international terrorist and once responsible for providing security to Osama evaded arrest for so many years.

However, CTD DIG Usman Gondal told a press conference that Haq had sneaked into Pakistan from Afghanistan recently. He said the terrorist was arrested in Pakistan in 2007 and sentenced to four years in jail. In 2021, he was seen in Afghanistan.

The DIG said that the terrorist possessed Pakistan\’s CNIC with addresses of Lahore and Haripur. He said it was being investigated how he obtained the CNIC.
