Court orders release of PTI’s Sanam Javed

LAHORE: A bench of the Lahore High Court today ordered immediate release of PTI activist Sanam Javed  arrested since May 2023 in an arson attack case.

In its 14-page ruling, the two judges said that despite being in jail, the deputy commissioners of Lahore and Gujranwala issued detention orders of the woman activist. Keeping her in jail in the same case showed mala fides of the authorities. 

The high court said that judges while giving any suspect in remand custody should take into consideration the constitutional provisions ensuring human rights. The court ordered immediate release of Ms Javed after the deputy prosecutor general stated that there was no other case against her.
