Govt asked to construct Mastuj-Broghil road

MASTUJ The residents of Mastuj tehsil in Upper Chitral have asked the government to build the 153-kg long Mastuj-Broghil Road, connecting 114 villages in the remote area of the district.

The demand was made at a meeting of the local elders with Syed Mukhtar Ali Shah Advocate, the president of Mastuj-Broghil Road Tehreek, in the chair in Mastuj. 

Former union council nazim Mohammad Wazir Khan, Sher Nadir Khan, Mohammad Ali, Rahmat Wali Khan, Daulat Baig and others attended the meeting.

The participants demanded the government to order the repair of the road as the local people faced difficulty transporting patients, particularly women and elderly people to hospitals.

They also demanded the local authorities to take up this matter with the chief guest on the occasion of the Shandur Polo Festival by including it as one of the main demands.

The participants said that it was a longstanding issue of the local people but unfortunately no attention was being paid to it.

They said that the Mastuj-Broghil Road connected Pakistan with China, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. They said that Mastuj and Broghil were strategically important places for defence and trade.

The locals said that the road has been in a dilapidated condition for decades due to which accidents have become a routine and many lives have been lost.

They said This road had a historical significance as it was used for trade and other purposes by the people of Central Asia and Chitral in the past.

By constructing the road, Pakistan can have a direct and safe link with Central Asian states and promote trade and other business activities. This will not only change the socioeconomic condition of the whole area but will also augment trade and revenue generation for Pakistan.

The participants asked the government to allocate funds for the construction of the Broghil road to facilitate the people of the area.
