ISLAMABAD: A student went missing while on a hiking on Trail-V of Margalla Hills in Islamabad on Sunday.

On Monday, the dead body of the student was recovered from a ravine in the hills. Islamabad police said the student had strayed and fell into the ravine.

The Islamabad police had registered a kidnapping case against unknown persons and also launched a search operation in the densely-forested hills overlooking the capital city of Pakistan.

They said quick response squads had been deployed in the trail and drones were also being used to locate the missing student. On the other hand, a kidnapping case has been registered.

According to the police,  Muhammad Talha, 16, had gone on hiking to the trail with his friends but he lost way somewhere in the hills. The friends of Talha later called the parents of the student who approached the police.

Margalla Hills are home to a large number of wild animals, including leopards and wolves, and the district administration frequently warn hikers to go on the hills in groups. Hiking in the hills after sunset is also banned.

The government recently launched a dedicated force to help those straying from the tracks into the forest areas and also installed CCTV cameras on vintage points.
